Forensics

William Penn HS is embarking into a new field of extracurricular activity. 2011-2012 will be the inaugural year for our Forensics and Debate Team. To clarify, Forensics is the act of public speaking through the interpretation of dramatic or humorous pieces of literature, poetry and prose as well as performance of original writing. Students have an opportunity to competitively perform selections ranging from plays to sections of their favorite novels. Students are required to apply their own interpretation of the characters and voices which makes this activity a remarkable education opportunity.

The Debate portion of our club participates in a structured competition of debates on modern topics analyzing the moral and ethical core of those proposed issues. Students have the opportunity to compete in “one on one” debates as well as team style debates. There is an opportunity for students to apply what their debating skills to mock congress. These are opportunities that will hone the logical and dynamic thinking skills of our students as well as refining their speaking skills.

Our competitions occur throughout the year. We participate in competitions throughout Delaware and Pennsylvania. If this type of club is of interest to you, please contact Mr. Lusch in Room E-112 in person or by email.
